Linnets stay top

December 2, 2019

King’s Lynn Town continued their amazing season with this hard fought victory over Gateshead at a chilly Walks on Saturday. The win keeps The Linnets sitting proudly top of the National League North table two points clear of second placed York City who also won on Saturday and have a game in hand on Town.

The game’s only goal arrived  with sixteen minutes of the match remaining via  the ever reliable Adam Marriott. Town’s red hot striker had been well shackled by the visiting defence until then but a delightful pass from substitute Sam Kelly into a pocket of rare space allowed Marriott the chance to control the ball before sending a powerful shot beyond the visiting keeper for what proved to be the afternoon’s  only goal.  The effort was Marriott’s 20th league goal (and 50th for the club) of what is proving to be a remarkable season for the striker.

The Linnets have a free week before   Blyth Spartans, under the management of former Premier League star Lee Clark , visit The Walks for a National League North fixture on Saturday December 7th.

Lynn: Street, Barrows, Fox, Jarvis (Kelly), Ward (Jones), McAuley, Clunan, Richards, Gash, Marriott, Henderson (Carey)

Subs (not used): Hawkins, Payne

Lynn Reserves picked up a fine 2 – 1 win over Sheringham at The Fenland Stadium, Wisbech  on Saturday, their first win since September.

Monday’s scheduled youth league fixture with Peterborough Sports , due to be played on The Walks, has been postponed. This is due to the visitors having a county cup game.
