Ladies win away

November 4, 2019

Lynn Ladies progressed to the next stage of the ERWFL League Cup competition with this victory at Leigh Ramblers on Sunday.

Lynn made light of the long 2 hour drive to Southend and started positively and strongly , taking the lead in the 10th minute. Jodie Hopkins initial corner kick was  cleared by the  home defence but only to Tegan Wheeler who played the ball back to Hopkins whose return cross caught out the home keeper and sailed into the net giving Lynn a deserved lead. The home keeper redeemed herself with a stunning save to deny Tiff Forshaw as the Ladies continued to press. Leigh threatened rarely on the break  with Lynn continuing to stand firm and duly their second goal of the afternoon arrived with 10 first half minutes remaining. Wheeler’s mazy run was stopped by an over enthusiastic  home challenge  resulting in a free kick. Deva Rawlings kick was then cleared by the Ramblers defence but only to Hopkins whose 30 yard effort was spilled by the home keeper allowing Forshaw a tap in from close range.

The second half saw the home side dominate much of the possession but found the visiting defence in fine form , resulting in a clean sheet for Lynn and a 100% record in the competition .

Scorers: Hopkins 10, Forshaw 35.

Player of the Match: Tegan Wheeler
