Jake Moult’s 94th minute equalise for Altrincham ensured a share of the spoils in this fiery National League North fixture at The Walks on Saturday.
The Linnets controlled much of the opening 45 minutes but despite their dominance were unable to breach the visiting defence due mainly to some resolute defending and keeper Anthony Thompson producing some decent saves.
The second half continued in a similar pattern, with Altrincham restricted to quick breaks which did trouble the Lynn backline from time to time. The match needed a spark of genius to break the deadlock and it duly arrived with a piece of brilliance from Adam Marriott who twisted and turned before firing beyond Thompson from a close range, tight angle. The goal triggered more urgency from the visitors and the home fans had barely finished celebrating their sides strike when Joshua Hancock stole in to beat Alex Street from 8 yards. Back came the Linnets who restored their lead with another tidy finish from Marriott from inside the box which completed a crazy spell of 3 goals inside 6 minutes. Lynn thought they had done enough to secure all 3 points however Moult had other ideas and stabbed the ball into the home net with almost the last kick of the game.
The Linnets moved back to 4th spot in the league with the point gained and are next in action on Tuesday evening with a rearranged fixture away at Kidderminster Harriers (7.45pm)
