The Ladies secured a notable scalp at the weekend with this impressive League Cup victory over Hutton. Prior to Sunday the visitors were sitting top of the ERWFL Division One South with an impressive 47 goals scored from their opening games .
Lynn began the game brightly and the early pressure applied soon saw the opening goal of the game. A delightful ball from the ladies defence by Charlee Griffith picked out Rachel Skinner whose pace on the wing took her past a defender before cutting the ball back to Tiff Forshaw who in turn picked out Lithuanian international Oksana Imanalijeva who rounded off an outstanding home move. The Ladies continued to press but were grateful to keeper Louise Coggles who preserved their lead at the break with some fine saves.
The second half continued as the first had ended with the Ladies continuing to press their visitors back. The goal their pressure deserved finally arrived when captain Becky Russell converted from the penalty spot after Forshaw had been upended by the keeper following Russell’s through ball to the Lynn hot shot. The cushion of the second goal saw the home team relax and enjoy much more controlled possession of the ball. The third goal which put the result beyond any doubt arrived with five minutes remaining. Substitute Katie Ward’s run being ended by a defender in the box which allowed Russell the opportunity of her second penalty of the afternoon which she duly accepted.
This was an outstanding all round performance from the Ladies which was marred only by an injury to Shanice Burch who was caught late by an opposition player during the second half.
Next fixture for the Ladies is on Sunday with the long trip to Leigh Ramblers for a League Cup fixture.
