King’s Lynn Town kept their 100 per cent record in their final pre-season away game at Braintree Town on Saturday.
Second half goals from Michael Gash and Aaron Jones saw off the National League South outfit in a fixture played in, thankfully, cool and cloudy conditions.
Braintree began the better of the two sides and struck Alex Street’s woodwork twice in the space of seconds as early as the third minute.
Lynn responded as Gash headed over and Nathan Fox forced Michael Johnson to tip the ball away for a corner which then resulted in Rory McAuley heading against the home crossbar.
Adam Marriott forced a superb save from ex-Hitchin Town keeper Johnson and the hosts had the ball in the net, but the effort was ruled out by the referee for a foul on Street as the half ended all square.
The second half saw both sides make changes which, as expected, effected the flow of the game.
Marriott saw another shot deflected away for a harmless corner before Gash broke the deadlock as he cut inside the box from the Linnets left and drilled a glorious low shot beyond Johnson for the opener.
Town’s second goal arrived just two minutes later as Jones shot was deflected past Johnson by a retreating home defender to seal victory.

The Linnets complete their pre-season programme on Tuesday evening when a Charlton under-23 side visits the Walks (7.30pm).
It promises to be a big Walks evening as at 6:30pm the newly-refurbished and renamed Blue & Gold Sports Bar will be reopened by two Lynn legends in the shape of Mick Wright and Keith Rudd.
The area has been given a complete lick of paint and some exciting new features have been added.
The work has been carried out by a group of volunteers over the summer in the hope of attracting more supporters back to the venue over the coming months.
King's Lynn Town Reserves are also in action on Tuesday night with a trip to Ely City.
King's Lynn Town Ladies began their pre-season schedule with a 2-2 draw at Hykeham Town on Sunday.
The ladies, trying out new tactics and formations throughout the game, found themselves a goal down but responded well and got themselves back on level terms with a well-worked goal scored by Emma Corbyn just before the interval.
The goal breathed new life into the Linnets and the second spell saw a much higher level of work rate.
Hykeham Town retook the lead with 20 minutes remaining but showed great character to regain control of the game.
With the game entering its final stages, Lynn were awarded a penalty as Charlee Griffith was fouled in the box and Becky Russell converted from the spot to level the scores again.
King's Lynn Ladies continue their pre-season campaign next Sunday with an away fixture at Cambridge United. The match has a midday kick-off.
