Linnets produce a work of art to beat Stratford

March 24, 2019

King's Lynn Town produced their own masterpiece in Shakespeare country to boost their chances of a top-three finish at the expense of Stratford Town.
And there was a string of fine performances from Ian Culverhouse's class as Lynn ended Town's four-game unbeaten run at the Arden Garages Stadium.
A goal in each half from strike duo Adam Marriott and Michael Gash was enough to clinch a hard-fought three points in Warwickshire, where both Jordan Richards and recent signing Ross Barrows played leading roles in Lynn's latest act.
Barrows, who arrived at the club from Grantham on Friday, made an immediate impact by crossing for Michael Gash to flick the ball on for Adam Marriott to open the scoring after only three minutes.
Stratford's Will Grocott missed easily the best chance of the half for the hosts from six yards out while Alex Street denied Nabil Shariff with an excellent save down to his left.
The Linnets came close to doubling their advantage shortly before the interval when Barrows surged his way into the box, but his shot deflected through the legs of Bilboe and out for a corner,
Ten minutes after the restart, Wilson Carvalho’s effort from 25 yards out hit the side netting with some home fans celebrating after thinking the ball had found the back of the net.
The Linnets were always a threat on the counter but were mainly restricted to efforts from long-range, one of which Laurence Bilboe tipped over his woodwork from the impressive Jordan Richards.
Stratford came close to levelling matters with 15 minutes to go, but Ryan Fryatt was on hand to block Shariff’s effort on the line after the initial shot from substitute Dan Creaney was saved by the legs of Street.
The Linnets were magnificent at the back with both Rory McAuley and Fryatt defending resolutely when called upon.
Although the hosts just about shaded the second period, they fell 2-0 behind in the 87th minute when Gash drilled home into the bottom right-hand corner from the edge of the area following a late spell of Lynn pressure.
