King's Lynn Town 2 Redditch 0
Goals in either half from Ryan Fryatt and Adam Marriott saw The Linnets home in this Southern Premier Central Division encounter at The Walks on Saturday.
Lynn welcomed Aaron Jones back to the starting line up following his recent knee surgery at the expense of Joe Robinson and both Ryan Jarvis and Chris Henderson began the game with Craig Parker and Will Mellors-Blair having to make do with places on the bench.
Henderson was quickly in on the action, shooting over from the angle and both he and Marriott were denied in quick succession by visiting blocks.
The Linnets took the lead in the 26th minute as Fryatt rose highest at the back post to nod past Adam Whitehouse following a Frazer Blake-Tracy corner.
A beautiful flowing move inspired by Michael Clunan and Michael Gash almost allowed Rory McAuley to double the advantage shortly before the break before Whitehouse’s intervention.
A mazy Jones run just after the restart resulted in a shot that went inches wide before Alex Street was called into action to deny George Washbourne from close range.
Clunan was upended by Robert Evans, who could maybe count himself fortunate to escape with just a yellow, and the resulting free-kick saw Blake-Tracy force Whitehouse into a top-drawer save.
Although the Linnets always looked comfortable the home side needed a second goal and Marriott duly provided with a composed and powerful finish from 12 yards out in the 76th minute.
The win sees Town maintain fourth spot in the league table.
They are next in action on Saturday with a visit to basement team Bedworth United.
