Linnets up to sixth after defeating Rushall Olympic

December 15, 2018

King's Lynn Town 3 Rushall Olympic 0
King's Lynn Town moved just outside the play-off places after extending their unbeaten league run to 12 games at the Walks.
Defender Rory McAuley netted a brilliant overhead kick in the second half after Ryan Hawkins and a Michael Clunan penalty had given the hosts a 2-0 advantage going into the interval.
The visitors acquitted themselves well in the early stages with Edwin Ahenkorah clipping an effort just over the woodwork while both Orrin Pendley and Danny Waldron missed opportunities to put the Pics in front.
It was Lynn who took the lead somewhat against the run of play when Adam Przybek made an excellent stop to deny Hawkins, who fired Ian Culverhouse's side in front on the rebound.
Four minutes before the break it was the Pics who missed a gilt-edged chance to draw themselves level after the dangerous Waldron dragged his shot wide after finding himself one-on-one with Linnets goalkeeper Alex Street.
Lynn doubled their advantage a minute before the interval as Clunan fired home from the spot after Tyler Lyttle was adjudged to have pulled down Michael Gash in the box.
Despite the driving rain and bitterly cold conditions, the Linnets managed the game superbly in the second half.
Lynn saved the best goal until last after McAuley left Przybek with no chance following an acrobatic overhead kick 16 minutes from time.

It was a welcome three points ahead of next Saturday's tough trip to Biggleswade.
