FA Cup Third Qualifying Round
King's Lynn Town 0 Ashton United 1
Joint King’s Lynn Town manager Rob Back was left to rue a series of missed chances as interest in the FA Cup came to an end.
Substitute Ramiez Howarth climbed off the bench to fire Ashton United into the next round with a stunning strike into the back of Alex Street's net.
Town’s front-foot start saw defender Rory McAuley head a Michael Clunan corner wide and moments later the two combined again, this time from the latter’s free-kick.
Harry Limb was inches away from a driven Ryan Jarvis centre and some delightful quick passing from Ryan Hawkins and Michael Gash allowed Craig Parker a side-footed effort which was saved comfortably by Welsh under-23 keeper Luke Pilling.
Gash then shot wildly over and Hawkins forced Pilling into a diving save to keep out his swirling effort as the hosts ended the half strongly.
But with 18 minutes left, Matthew Chadwick’s low ball found Howarth on the edge of the box and he dispatched a crisp first-time shot into the top corner.
Lynn still had chances to earn a Tuesday evening Manchester replay.
Toby Hilliard’s header was grabbed by Pilling on the line and Gash’s acrobatic effort was again grabbed by the impressive visiting keeper moments before the end but it wasn't to be.
