Club stalwarts Neil Fryatt and Rob Back will continue in their managerial caretaker roles on Saturday as The Linnets host Stafford Rangers in the second qualifying round of this seasons Emirates FA Cup (3pm).
The duo oversaw Town’s replay demolition of Histon in the previous round and also took charge of last weekend’s trip to Halesowen Town which saw Harry Limb register his first Linnets goal to earn the club a deserved share of the spoils.
The Linnets will be looking to get the job done at the first time of asking on Saturday and avoid a trip to Marston Road on Tuesday evening.
If they do it will be their first victory of the season in front of their own fans – a fact not lost on Back.
Back said: "The smiles are back on the faces of the players and we hope we can do the same for the fans. We need all of the supporters fully behind the team and they can be our 12th man.
"We've done a little bit of homework on Stafford, but Neil and myself are more concerned about what we do in our dressing room.
"We've got home advantage and if the players can perform how they are capable of then we are capable of beating anyone on the day.
"It's a one-off game and anything can happen but it's a competition that excites players and fans alike.
"All of the squad are looking forward to Saturday's game as there is no better competition in the world to play in. Every footballer wants to have a run in the FA Cup."
The Linnets will be hoping to welcome back both Michael Gash and Ryan Hawkins to the squad after both suffered dead legs in recent weeks.
Northern Premier Division outfit Rangers currently sit 11th in the league table and progressed to Saturday’s game after a 2-1 win over Grimsby Borough in the previous round.
They are managed by the experienced Steve Burr who was a prolific non-league striker in his playing days.
This is the third time that the two teams have met in the FA Cup with the visitors winning both matches in 1974 and 1990 by a 3-1 margin – both matches being played at the Walks.
The winners of Saturday’s tie will receive £9,000 in prize money and a place in Monday’s third qualifying round draw.
Normal league prices will apply for Saturday’s fixture.
If the game ends in a draw the replay will take place at Stafford Rangers Marston Road ground on Tuesday, September 24, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
Lynn Reserves travel to Needham Market for a Thurlow Nunn Division One fixture.
