Ineffective Linnets suffer third defeat in five league games

Lowestoft Town 1 King's Lynn Town 0
King's Lynn Town's poor start to the new campaign continued with a derby defeat at Lowestoft Town this afternoon.
In the first league meeting between the two sides since 1954, the Linnets were undone by an early goal from Ben Fowkes in Suffolk.
The Linnets made two changes to their starting line-up from Saturday for the game in Suffolk with Valter Da Rocha and Harry Limb replacing the injured Michael Clunan while Toby Hilliard dropped to the bench.
Former Linnets Adam Smith, Andrew Fisk and Jacek Zielonka all started for the Trawlerboys along with Kieran Higgs who spent the summer on trial at The Walks.
After a scrappy opening, it was the hosts who took the lead in the 13th minute after Fowkes blasted home from an acute angle.
The Linnets should have been back on level terms midway through the first half when Rocha and Ryan Hawkins combined to set up Limb whose effort was gratefully saved by Elvijs Putnins two yards out.
Good play by Connor Deeks teed up Shaun Bammant with an opportunity to have a shot at goal but his left-footed effort lacked any real power.
At the other end, Rocha curled an effort high and wide before Andrew Fisk played the ball into Bammant but the big frontman wasn't able to make a connection.
Seven minutes before the break, Craig Parker saw his volley brilliantly saved by Putnins and the Lynn man was unable to direct the rebound on target.
Rocha saw an effort deflected out for a corner as the Linnets stepped up the pressure towards the end of the first half.
On the stroke of half-time, a long ball over the top found Higgs who sprinted down the wing before cutting in and shooting straight at Street.
Lynn, who lacked any real fluency in the first half, made a double change five minutes into the second half with Toby Hilliard and Nathen Stewart replacing the ineffective Limb and Hawkins respectively.
The changes breathed new life into Simon Clark's side, Fisk brilliantly blocking one effort and Hilliard delivering a cross that his colleagues were unable to convert.
Fifteen minutes after the restart, Zielonka’s cross into the box was cleared into the path of Josh Curry whose shot whistled over the woodwork.
Rocha flashed an effort just wide of the left upright as Lynn tried to find a way back into the contest while Stewart's shot deflected out for a corner which came to nothing.
The defeat leaves Lynn with just four points from their opening five fixtures.
