King's Lynn Town 2-0 Gosport Borough
The Linnets kicked off their 2017-18 Southern League Campaign in perfect style with a fine performance against their south coast opposition played in front of the biggest crowd of the day in the league.
And Lynn couldn't of asked for a better start, Ryan Hawkins was hauled down inside the area by Chin Vine resulting in a penalty, Mr Reliable Michael Clunan dispatched the spot kick past the despairing Sam Gray in the visitors goal.
Recent signing Cameron Norman was a constant threat in the first half, his driving runs and crosses where a thorn in the Gosport backline, Leon Mettam thought he had doubled Lynn's lead when his cheeky front post flick from a Norman centre was superbly saved by Grey.
Michael Gash making his home debut had the ball in the net twice but both ruled out by the officials, The last resulting in a yellow card for the striker for handball.
Minutes before the break the home side doubled their lead, And it was Norman the provider, Yet another driving run and cross from the right saw the ball go all the way across the face of the Gosport goal and Craig Parker was on hand to slam home at the back post.
The second half didn't live up to the first half, Gosport pressed Lynn and didn't give them anytime on the ball and limited the number of chances.
Alex Street a first half spectator was called into action when a mix up in the Linnets midfield saw Aaron Dawson break free and create the best chance for the visitors but the combination of Ryan Jarvis pressure and a good low save from Street dealt with the matter well.
