King’s Lynn Town began their FA Cup campaign with a trip to fellow National League North side Bedford Town. However, the Linnets weren’t able to progress, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat.
The Linnets started well, as Ryan Tunnicliffe played in Layton Love, who struck from the edge of the area. However, his powerful effort was just too high.
In the 15th minute, the Linnets were awarded a penalty after Jesse Nwabueze was brought down in the box.
Nwabueze stepped up to the spot and calmly slotted home, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and giving the Linnets the lead.
Five minutes later, the Linnets came close to making it two, as a Ryan Tunnicliffe long throw caused all sorts of problems in the Bedford box. It eventually fell to Zak Mills, whose powerful effort was blocked in the six-yard box.
Moments later, Bedford Town equalised firmly against the run of play, as Louie Kudiabo latched onto a cut-back cross to slot the ball into the bottom-right-hand corner.
The Linnets looked to regain their lead. A swerving Jesse Nwabueze free kick caused all sorts of problems for goalkeeper Laurie Walker, although the Bedford keeper was able to push it behind.
Layton Love also came close, as his powerful effort was well saved by Walker, with the first half looking to be ending level.
However, one minute before half-time,
Bedford Town retook the lead, as George Moncur’s strike into the bottom-right-hand corner gave the hosts the lead at the break.
The Linnets came out looking to respond, as
Michael Clunan played through Love once more. This time, his shot was blocked.
Chances were limited at the start of the second half, as Bedford defended well. However, the Linnets still had the majority of the ball as they pushed for an equalising goal.
As the second half progressed and changes were made, Carlton Ubaezuonu went close as he latched onto a deflected ball, forcing Laurie Walker into action.
The Linnets kept pushing into the closing stages, but as time ticked away, they found themselves down to ten men, as Aaron Jones received a straight red card for a high foot. As the game ended in defeat for the Linnets.
